I am many things. Writer. Health Coach. Blogger. Mother to Sarah. Doggie-mom to Emily and Samantha. Daughter to Richard and Lucy. Sister to Jennifer. Friend to many great people. Colleague. Attorney. Mediator. And Over-Achiever. These are some of the hats that I wear, and I like them all, for many reasons, but most importantly because they give me ideas for my writing.
My path to my present place in life has been circuitous, but (I think) interesting. I was born in Japan, grew up in Mississippi, spent a short amount of time on the west coast, and have been in the New York City metro area for the past 15 years. I graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1995 with a B.A. as a double-major in art and musical theatre. After a short jaunt as a graphic designer at a major corporation, I pursued an acting career for three years. Then I decided to do something totally different: I attended Brooklyn Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 2003. While practicing law in Manhattan at a large international law firm, I received my certification as a health coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. As part of my health coaching practice, I started my blog, The Daily Balance Blog. This is when my love for writing — as a career path — came into being.
I began freelance writing in 2008, writing for magazines, webzines, and blogs. Broadly speaking, everything I do — as a writer, health coach, blogger, and lawyer — helps people take care of themselves and their families. You can find links to my previously published work on my Articles page. I also speak on these same subjects.
